The program seeks to deliver reliable emergency power where it is needed most while advancing sustainable mobility in Baguio City.
BAGUIO CITY — Rotary Club of Marikina West is advancing a major clean energy and disaster resilience initiative through its program, “Walang Maiiwan sa Dilim: Integrated Solar Power and EV Charging for a Safe and Green Community,” aimed at strengthening energy security in Baguio City, Sagada, and Barangay Ankileng.
The initiative combines renewable energy infrastructure with emergency preparedness measures, providing communities with reliable power solutions during brownouts, natural disasters, and other emergency situations, while also promoting sustainable transport and environmental stewardship.
A central component of the program is the installation of two Universal EV Chargers in Baguio City, specifically at the Baguio Athletic Bowl and the Tennis Court area, as part of a pilot rollout designed to support the city’s growing adoption of electric vehicles.
Beyond Baguio, the project will also deploy portable solar-powered generator units, including Bluetti energy systems, in Sagada and Barangay Ankileng, where access to backup power remains critical during severe weather events and prolonged outages. The solar units, together with supporting solar panels and related equipment, are expected to provide emergency electricity for communities, responders, and essential local services.
Rotary officials said the initiative addresses both immediate disaster-response needs and longer-term clean energy goals, particularly in vulnerable communities where reliable electricity can be disrupted by typhoons and other calamities.
The program is expected to benefit local residents, emergency responders, barangay personnel, and healthcare workers who depend on uninterrupted power during crisis situations.
To ensure smooth implementation and long-term sustainability, Rotary Club of Marikina West is working with multiple partner institutions, including the Baguio City local government, the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO), Barangay Ankileng, and the Municipality of Sagada.
According to the organization, the project is not merely an infrastructure undertaking but a long-term investment in building greener, safer, and more disaster-resilient communities.
If the pilot implementation proves successful, Rotary said the model may be replicated in other areas across the country facing similar energy and disaster preparedness challenges.
