LEAD Joint Committee formed to deliver urgent and long-term solutions amid soaring fuel prices and rising cost of living

Amid a worsening oil crisis driven by conflict in the Middle East, Rep. Miro Quimbo has taken center stage in the government’s response, leading efforts in the House of Representatives to address the growing economic strain on Filipino households.

As fuel prices surge past ₱100 per liter and food and basic goods become more expensive, the ripple effects are being felt nationwide. The transport sector, minimum wage earners, and middle-income families—many of whom do not receive government aid—are among the hardest hit. Families are tightening their budgets, while overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) face increased risks amid escalating tensions abroad.

In response, House Speaker Bojie Dy directed the creation of the Legislative Energy Action and Development (LEAD) Joint Committee, appointing Quimbo to lead the initiative. The committee is composed of 13 House panels tasked with thoroughly examining the energy crisis and crafting both immediate and long-term policy responses.

“This is only the first session, and we will convene again next week,” Quimbo said, underscoring the urgency of the situation. “We will not stop seeking appropriate solutions, especially as more Filipinos bear the weight of this crisis.”

Under Quimbo’s leadership, lawmakers are expected to push for measures that will stabilize fuel prices, curb inflation, and provide relief to vulnerable sectors, as the country navigates the far-reaching impact of global oil volatility.
