BRP Diego Silang uses advanced surveillance systems to track movements in the West Philippine Sea.
The Philippine Navy frigate BRP Diego Silang (FFG-07) reportedly issued a radio challenge to a Chinese Navy frigate operating approximately 30 nautical miles off the coast of Zambales, near Bajo de Masinloc (Scarborough Shoal), an area located within the Philippines’ 200-nautical-mile Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).
In its radio transmission, the Philippine warship reminded the Chinese vessel of Philippine jurisdiction and international maritime laws.
“This is Philippine Navy Warship 7. In accordance with international and Philippine national laws, you are within the Philippine Exclusive Economic Zone over which the Philippines has sovereignty,” the BRP Diego Silang said.
“Your actions are illegal and will be reported and will prejudice our countries’ relations,” the message added.
Reports said the Philippine frigate used its Safran PASEO XLR advanced electro-optical and infrared targeting system to monitor, track, and maintain situational awareness of the Chinese Navy vessel’s movements within the Philippine EEZ in the West Philippine Sea.
The BRP Diego Silang (FFG-07), one of the Philippine Navy’s modern semi-stealth frigates, is designed to perform multiple naval missions, including surface warfare, anti-air warfare, anti-submarine warfare, and electronic warfare operations.
The frigate is equipped with advanced radar systems, sonar capabilities, and integrated tracking and targeting systems that enhance the Philippine Navy’s maritime security and surveillance operations.
