Violent afternoon crash along H. Bautista Street sends 13 passengers to hospitals as safety concerns resurface
A modern jeepney was left heavily damaged after slamming into a tree, leaving 13 passengers injured in Marikina City on Tuesday afternoon.
The crash occurred at around 1:30 p.m. on January 13 along H. Bautista Street near the corner of J. Molina Street in Barangay Concepcion Uno. Based on initial police investigation, the driver of the Yutong modern jeepney reportedly lost control of the vehicle, suddenly swerved to the right, and plowed into a roadside tree.
The impact sent passengers violently jolting inside the vehicle, causing multiple injuries. Among those hurt were a 13-year-old minor and a 73-year-old senior citizen. Responding personnel from Marikina City 161 Rescue immediately rushed the injured passengers to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Police officers also arrived at the scene to secure the area and launch an investigation. Authorities noted severe damage to the front portion of the jeepney, underscoring the force of the collision.
While an amicable settlement among the parties involved is being considered, public concern continues to mount over the incident. Questions remain on how the driver lost control and whether safety measures for public transport vehicles are being strictly enforced.
Authorities once again reminded public utility vehicle operators and drivers that passenger safety must always come first—above speed, quotas, or tight schedules. For News Video: https://www.facebook.com/share/v/1MaUZBKvNk/
