Senator says corruption must be confronted by educating the next generation of public officials
Senator Alan Peter Cayetano rejected calls to abolish the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK), saying corruption should be addressed through reform and proper training.
Cayetano argued that if young officials are being exposed to corrupt practices, those influencing them—not the SK itself—should be held accountable.
He urged the government to strengthen training in governance, ethics and public service for youth leaders.
Cayetano proposed involving state universities and colleges, TESDA, DAP and DILG in the training program and called for funding as early as 2027.
The Senate subsequently approved an amendment adding state universities and colleges to the agencies that may participate in SK training.
