Prestigious film body expands recognition to television, radio, and online media talents
In a historic move for the Philippine entertainment and media industry, the Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences (FAMAS) has officially launched the first-ever FAMAS Broadcast Awards 2026, broadening its prestigious honors beyond film to celebrate outstanding personalities and programs in television, radio, and online platforms.
During a recent media conference, FAMAS executives unveiled the new awards platform as part of the organization’s commitment to evolve with the changing media landscape and the rapid rise of digital content creation.
For FAMAS President Francia Conrado, the expansion has long been a personal mission — one shaped by reflection during the pandemic and by growing calls from the public to recognize emerging voices in new media.
“This has always been my personal mission,” Conrado shared. “During the pandemic, I had time to think about how to expand FAMAS. Many were asking if we would recognize bloggers and new media. I want everyone who dreams of receiving a FAMAS trophy to have that chance and to leave a legacy for the next generation.”
She emphasized that the time has come to honor not only mainstream broadcast networks but also digital storytellers, vloggers, and content creators who have built audiences across online platforms.
Meanwhile, FAMAS Artistic Director Vince Tañada assured the public of the credibility and fairness of the selection process.
“We are very fortunate to have respected and distinguished jury members from different sectors — educators, artists, business leaders, and even ordinary citizens,” Tañada said. “We do not separate free TV, radio, or online. For us, there is only one standard: talent.”
He added that excellence should never be confined to one platform.
“Talent has no monopoly. Whatever the platform is, true talent will always rise.”
The new awards will feature three major categories: Television, Radio, and Online Media, opening the doors to traditional broadcasters, journalists, influencers, vloggers, and digital creators alike.
Winners will still receive the iconic FAMAS statuette, widely regarded as one of the highest honors in Philippine arts and entertainment.
Nominees are expected to be announced in the coming weeks, with the grand awards night set to take place at the Manila Hotel.
With the launch of the Broadcast Awards, FAMAS sends a clear message to the industry: more talents, more opportunities, and more inclusive recognition — marking a bold new chapter for broadcast and digital media in the Philippines
