Senator questions DPWH order to halt alleged reclamation projects in Taguig, says agency failed to identify projects covered by directive.
MANILA, Philippines — Senator Alan Peter Cayetano has challenged Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Vince Dizon over an order reportedly seeking the immediate halt of alleged reclamation projects in Taguig, questioning the absence of a clear list identifying the projects covered by the directive.
“Fix your script before calling a press conference,” Cayetano said, criticizing what he described as inconsistencies in the DPWH’s explanation of the order.
Cayetano questioned how authorities could order projects stopped without first identifying which specific developments were being targeted. He also pointed to projects cited in the discussion, including the C-6 road, which he said had already been completed and was already being used by the public.
The senator asked what could still be stopped in projects that are already operational, raising concerns over the accuracy and basis of the government’s statements.
Cayetano further accused Dizon of acting on the basis of political pressure and alleged that the DPWH chief was being drawn into an issue promoted by Malacañang and Sen. Panfilo “Ping” Lacson. He offered no specific evidence in the remarks presented to substantiate that allegation.
The senator also criticized what he characterized as a rush to issue media statements before officials had established the precise status and scope of the projects involved.
Cayetano’s remarks underscore the need for the DPWH to provide a definitive list of the projects covered by the order, along with their current status and the legal or technical basis for any proposed suspension.
